A Handefull of Pleasant Delites

An Elizabethan Revel: Dancing, Music, Masking & Other Delights to Drive the Cold Winter Away

This event is open to all ‒ both experienced dancers and those with only an emergent interest in Elizabethan dances. The programme will be led by Anne Daye and

Ann Hinchliffe from the Historical Dance Society.

Outline programme

On Friday evening, after dinner, there will be informal Elizabethan dancing – suitable for all.

Saturday morning offers Elizabethan and Italian dance workshops, for both experienced and nov- ice dancers, and there are various options for the afternoon, including rehearsals for a Masque to be performed at the Revel, music-making, and making a banquet. In the evening there will be the Revel ‒ for which we encourage you to wear period costume.

After a talk on the Tudor masque, Sunday morning workshops will be on la Volta, court dances for performance and country dances for fun. The event will finish after tea.

About the venue

Halsway Manor (Tudor, with 19th-century extensions) has a splendid entrance hall with a real fire; a bar and parlour; a well-run Folk Library; and the Long Room, where we eat and dance. Bed- rooms are all upstairs, except for one ground-floor twin room with a wheelchair-accessible shower room; a few bedrooms are en suite. Across the gardens is the Mews, with good hostel-type rooms, all en suite, and one ground-floor room accessible for wheelchair users. Please let us know of any special requirements (e.g., mobility difficulties) on the booking form.

Good-quality home-cooked food is included in the cost of the residential weekend. The staff are happy to cater for all diets ‒ please let us know about your needs on the booking form.

There is plenty of parking space, and pitches for tents, caravans and camper vans.

The St. Petersburg - Prague Double Vintage Dance Week

Dear dancers!

We invite you to join us for an incredible two-week festival, The St. Petersburg - Prague Double Vintage Dance Week in 2017. Densely filled with adventures, the St. Petersburg and Prague weeks will be the historical dance event of the decade! Richard Powers, Hannelore Unfried and Boris Stratilatov will be our teachers in St. Petersburg. In addition to dance classes, the program includes dancing evenings, a midnight jazz dance cruise, summertime walking through St. Petersburg, a traditional Russian dance picnic, the 19th Century Grand Ball in a magnificent palace, and the fabled White Nights of St. Petersburg, when it's still twilight at midnight. You can find all of the details on the program page. We are cooperating with Dvorana from Prague. With this arrangement you have three choices: — The St. Petersburg Vintage Dance Week from June 24 - July 1; — The Prague Vintage Dance Week from July 1 — July 8; — Both! The most incredible dance adventure ever! If you choose to attend both dance weeks, you will receive a discount off the full price. For each dance week you must register separately. Each week has a capacity of only 70 dancers. To prevent one of the two weeks from filling too quickly, we are offering early registration now only for those taking both dance weeks. Then after one month, registration will open for those who wish to only attend one of the two weeks, if the two-week combination has not sold out by then. Join us on this exciting summer dancing adventure!
